VLOG: Tummy Tuck Surgery

Hi gorgeous (and handsome) Makeup Geeks!

I TRULY hope that you all are doing really well, and that 2011 is a great year so far!  I realize that this video is completely unlike any of my other videos, and I realize that not everyone is going to agree with my decision… But that’s ok as everyone is entitled to their thoughts and opinions, but have to choose for themselves what is best for them 🙂

I’m not posting this video to get any sympathy (my mom always tells me if I want sympathy to look it up in the dictionary- haha!)-  I’m simply posting this so you know why I’m not responding to emails and questions in the next few weeks, and also to encourage any of you out there going through the same thing.   This past week I have been watching several videos on youtube from others about their tummy tucks and other procedures- it has helped SO much in making me not so scared.  I want to do the same for someone else- just share my journey so someone else can see what it is really like to go through these procedures.

I’ll be having a tummy tuck and breast lift (also called a “mommy makeover”) on Feb. 1st- I’ve been planning and preparing for this surgery for many months now.  Although losing 90 pounds is the best feeling in the world, it is still frustrating to be young and have an “old” body.  Please don’t judge or create unnecessary drama on here regarding this- I know that not everyone is going to agree with my decision, but I am doing what I feel is best for me- that’s all 🙂   I’m scared out of my mind as I’ve never had surgery before, but I’m sure all will go well- I’m positive!

Here’s info about tummy tucks- not that I’m trying to push this at all!!  It is MUCH better to workout, do strength training, and lose weight slowly so you don’t have to go through this procedure. BUT… if all of that still isn’t enough, then there’s other options.

Medical Name:    Abdominoplasty
Length of Procedure:   2-5 hours
Average Cost:  $4000-8000
Down Time:   2-4 weeks
Recovery:   4-6 weeks
Procedure Location:   Hospital or surgery center

Here is a site that has been helpful for me:   http://www.realself.com/Tummy-tuck/reviews

The forum where many post their questions and experiences:   http://www.realself.com/tummy-tuck/forum

Also, before you make any decision for yourself, please only do this if YOU want it and don’t rush into your decision.  Be sure to interview at least 3 surgeons before choosing the one you want, and do all the research possible on that surgeon to make sure he is certified, qualified, and has good reviews from his other patients.

I will try to tape videos after surgery (no promises as I don’t know how badly I will feel) to keep you updated on the journey…   I will miss taping tutorials for you all, but I have busted booty the last few weeks taping extras for February!  There’s lots of really good videos coming up, so keep checking back 🙂

MUCH love,

  • marlena, your weight loss story is so inspirational.  i love hearing stories of those who have done everything the right way.  you are a beautiful woman and you should be so proud!!! congratulations!!!

  • You’re so inspiring. I really needed to hear this today.

I have been watching your tutorials and keeping up with the site for several months now. I knew from some of the articles that you had already had your tummy tuck but I had never seen this vid until now and it struck me so differently than any others. I mean, you are truely captivating in your tutorials(which is a word a non makeup geek would not use to describe someone in a makeup tutorial lol) and i have learned sooo much about products, technique, blending, etc. But this was such an emotional and REAL video….this was not the Marlena who is creating a Grammy look like Carrie Underwood, or talking about top 10 primers..this was a girl, whos has struggled with her weight and worked so hard to be happy in her body. Which i can absolutely understand since i have been overweight all of my life. I can connect with you so much about your weight loss journey and I have felt these emotions all my life in trying to really see my true beauty, with my body and whats on the inside. You are a true professional at what you do and I respect you so much. Thank you so much for all that you do with makeup geek and for showing us a rare side to such a beautiful and confident woman!

  • Becc

Thanks for putting this on Marlena – I’m looking at having the same thing done when I get a breast reduction & lift when I’ve finished having kids in a couple of years time. I know what you mean when you say how frustrating it is to be young & have an old body! I dont agree with people getting plastic surgery to turn them completely into someone else (like those awful women you see pictures of in magazines that look like clowns) but if there are one or 2 things that you can do to get your confidence back then why not!! Good on you for being brave & doing it despite what other people think.

  • Asraella

Sweetie, I would have done the same thing.  You work so hard, you should have your body match the work you put in, and if a tummy tuck is the extra that is needed to get there and it is what is right for you, then good for you!  🙂

You are an inspiration.  Don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise.

  • Paulette Consve

I love you so much!!! I’m Mexican, I’ve been watching you for 4 years I think, and you are such an inspiration… I can’t describe with words how much I admire you…

  • Amanda

Wait a second… You’re not getting ANOTHER tummy tuck, right? (I saw that this was entry was posted in March, but this is old right???

  • asiandrmr

    Hi Marlena,
I normally don’t post things but after seeing your video I had to…
I stumbled upon your make up geek site and was hooked by the videos but most of all your personality. I think you are AMAZING! And I feel like I know you! It’s ok to be emotional. Don’t be embarrassed about it, you actually had me tearing up!

  • Corina

Marlena, you have inspired me greatly. I’ve struggled a lot with my weight since a kid, and losing then being stuck on plateus is just upsetting. But I’m going to try your food ideas 😉 and once I get to where I need to get I will also do the Tummy Tuck. You look absolutely Gorgeous. You were still Gorgeous before it’s you i’ts your personality that makes you beautiful inside and out. Congrats on your weightloss… Blessings.

When was this site put up?? Can’t believe I am just now finding it.

I hardly judge you. I think that people just get a bit confused on what a tummy tuck actually is. Being a mom at the age of 25 I know that feeling of being so young but having an older looking body and having all that loose skin. Sometimes it takes a toll on my confidence and it’s not a great feeling. I wouldn’t necessarily say I am pro cosmetic surgery but I think to each their own. If you feel that you needed that surgery then there isn’t anything wrong with that.

You didn’t take the easy way out. You worked very hard and then just simply removed the extra skin.

  • Kitterz83

You shouldn’t worry about anyone ho has anything negative to say. You have worked your butt off (literally haha). My fiance had weight loss surgery years ago (he lost over 200 lbs) and has such an issue with the extra skin… there are just some things you can’t exercise away.

You’ve done such an awesome job lady! Don’t let anyone get you down or take away from that success =)

Well if you think it is right for you and don’t see any other options then you shouldn’t really worry about what other people have to say. I would be so scared though but hopefully you get the best results possible out of it. Good luck with it!!

  • Anna

Hi Marlena. Thanks for this. I have considered it at one stage but am scared at the thought of getting my body sliced up 🙁 (I don’t know what lighter way to put it sorry!). I’ve been seeing a lot of marketing exposure on Laser lipo surgery. I wanted to know if you have experienced or perhaps know of friends of yours that have gone through it and can rate good results. This is gonna sound kind stupid but…I first heard about it through the Groupon promotions where there are discounts…how trustworthy are these?

  • Valerie

Hi Marlena, I wanted to let you know how inspiring you are! I was watching tummy tuck videos on youtube recently (as I’m about to have an extended tummy tuck on July 18th) and came across yours.  You are such a beautiful woman both on the outside and inside.  I love watching your make up tutorials and everything you post about weight loss.  I wish you well with everything you do!  I’m hoping my surgery goes as well as yours seems to have.
    Keep up the great work,

  • Hello,

I just wanted to share something, then ask something. I have lost 49 pounds since April 12, 2012 (today is Aug 27th, 2012) and I am doing it like you did. Plain and simple, EATING RIGHT! I feel amazimg, but I too want a mommy makeover. I have been searching online fora Dr but I’m getting overwhelmed! I live in Huntington Beach, Ca… can you recommend someone?

  • Valerie

Hi, I’m not sure how far Huntington Beach is from San Juan Capistrano but I just had a Tummy Tuck and lipo in July by Dr.Moser at Aestheticare. I researched doctors for months and decided on Dr. Moser. He is one of the best, very caring and professional. I’m extremely happy with my results! 🙂 aestheticare.com

  • This video made me tear up like crazy. I can relate to every single thing you said. I’ve been overweight since I was a kid. I have no idea what it would be like to have an “average” body, just like you said. I’ve been struggling the past two years to stay consistent and get the weight off. I really need to focus and put myself first. I always said I want to have the same procedure done when I get close to goal. I’ve always felt like my body was “ruined”. Thanks for sharing your story and know that you aren’t alone!

  • Chy

I totall agree with your decision 🙂 you lost weight the right way and naturally so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting rid of the extra skin because there’s no other way. Good luck keep it up 😀

  • Alison

Thank you so much for posting this video and sharing this information. I am having a mommy makeover next week and wasn’t sure if I should share with my readers. I completely understand your frustration with not losing all the weight you want. I am scared out of my mind too so this is very encouraging. Thanks again!!
