My Workout Routine from Makeup Geek on Vimeo.

Hello Healthy Geeks!  ;)

Many of you have been asking what I do as my workout routine, so I wanted to take you with me on one of my workouts :)  I do a variety of things each week, but I mostly love to work out outside- it’s not as boring as running on a machine in the gym. My routine consists of jogging, walking, stair climbing, aerobic classes, and some weight lifting.  I go 4-5 times a week for 1- 1.5 hours each time.  I’ll do 2 days of aerobic classes followed by weight lifting, then 3 days of either walking, stair climbing, or bike riding.  The main goal is to just get out there and do something and be consistent with it!

Here’s my sample breakdown:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays:   bike ride for 1 hour  or walk/jog/stair climb for 1 hour
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays:   1 hour step class followed by 30 min weight lifting

Because my problem area is my arms and legs, I do stairs to try to tone my legs while weight lifting with equipment for the arms helps tone my arm “wings” haha. Remember, this is my personal workout, it is what works for me right now. Ask you Doctor before beginning an exercise routine of your own and find out what is going to be best for you.  I begin by going up 8 flights of stairs and I will do that 2 – 3 times. So, I am doing 16 – 24 flights of stairs at one time. After that I will either walk or jog around the block 1 – 2 times and then come back and do the stairs again. Also, to help the time go by faster, bring your I-Pod or phone and your favorite music.

I cannot stress enough that you be consistent!  I did not see toning results until at least 2 months of doing workouts, and did not lose weight quickly (I lose 1 pound a week on average, which is a good rate).

Also, be sure to drink plenty of water to make sure you stay hydrated, bring water with you and drink it as you feel you need it. Replenshing your body is very important. Also, I obviously don’t wear any makeup when I am exercising as it is incredibly bad for your skin to have makeup on while you are sweating.  This will clog your pores and cause breakouts. What I do to keep clear skin, is to wipe my face right after my workout.  I pack my car with sample packs of face wipes then wipe off my sweat and bacteria that will cause me to break out.

Anyways, I hope this helps you with figuring out a good workout plan!  Like I said before (I know I keep repeating this ;) ) is to be consistent.  If you miss a day, that’s ok- just be sure to do it tomorrow.  If you aren’t consistent, you won’t see the results you are hoping for.

Have a wonderful week, and have a great rest of your summer!
xoxo,
Marlena :)

Thank you! I hope you show us more! I love learning what others do! I always feel self conscious, so I found I am more comfortable at the community center gym, its full of old people getting their workout on! I have those towelettes in my gym bag, I’ll rinse my face off and wipe it down. I have them in my nightstand too for nights I’m too exhausted to make it to the bathroom sink.

Hi Marlena, Thanks so much — you are SO inspiring.. Every time I lose motivation, I look to your tips, big or small, to help me get through it! I was wondering… haha such a silly question, but what kinds of buildings do you exercise in?  I’m just wondering where I can go and it wouldn’t be too weird/embarassing hahaha thanks xox

  • Jen101779

I HATE gym machines (I feel like I’m about to fall over when I get off a streadmill, and I don’t seem to “fit” properly on an elliptical machine), but I LOVE to walk and ride a bike outside!! I also really like aerobics and swimming!! So thank you for sharing. Now I know that what I like to do will actually work to lose weight!! You look amazing, I could only wish to be as beautiful as you!!

  • Jane

Fantastic!  In two weeks I am moving to the tropical part of my country (Australia) and my new house has stairs in it – might have to start making use of them!  You are my inspiration Marlena!  xxoo

  • Makeupby IRMITA

Thanks so much for this video it so good to know that you dont need a gym to work out I know everyone tells me that but when I see it I feel its better to go forward and give it a try… just me..

  • Marox79

DON’T drive while you’re filming! I’m guessing it was just a residential area or something, but still.
I confess being consistent in my exercise routine is my weak point. Right now it’s just so hot outside I don’t really feel like anything.

  • Traci

Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been doing so good at being consistent for over 2mnths now and this week seems like i can’t get my butt in gear. It’s like you’re talking to me with the whole “be CONSISTENT!”  lol Good luck on the rest of your journey. I’ve got a ways to go but the weight is starting to come off finally after 2 months, so YAY

Hi Marlena, I am one of your fans, I have followed you for about a year and I have a sugestion for you, if you like exercising outside and hate gyms, like I do, you should check Zuzka Light’s channel, she is great at what she does, I also follow her and I’ve had great results, she does short and effective exercise routines that you can do basically anywhere, they might be a little difficult when you start, but you will build the strenght. When I first started her exercises I couldn’t do more than two or three pushups in a row, now I do many of them. I hope you check her out. ;) Have a good day Marlena, thanks for sharing yourself with the world.

  • Lisa_Car

    Hi Marlena,

I’m a fan from New Zealand and I love all your videos, especially your diet ones!

I’ve lost nearly 50 pounds in the last year or so, and have about 15 pounds to go which isn’t budging very easily! Last night, I went for my first run in YEARS! I ran 2km or about 1.6 miles. I was really hurting at the end, but I thought of you and how determined you are, especially in this video. I’m not sure if I would have made the last hundred yards if I didn’t picture you, so thank you!

This evening, I ran 2.5km and I’m really proud I made it the whole way. Thanks again for the motivation.

    xx

  • Jenny12

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been following your tips and I’ve lost about 20lbs :) still need to loose 15 more but I know I’ll get them off soon. I needed motivation and that’s what I got/found when I started watching your videos. If only you were closer ( i live in PR) so we could start a workout club. Thanks so much for all your help.

  • Martialartist927

You should try interval training! The fat burns right off for me. I lost the last 10lbs doing intervals on the treadmill. I ran as fast as I could for 2 min, then slow jog for 2. There’s sooooo many variations: p

  • anjune

Thank you for the advice, I have recently joined gym and been trying to eat healthy (for 2 weeks) but I didnot see any results so was bit frustrated but hopefully I will soon :D

  • Glowbymarlo

I want to know how did you get your arms so toned and not have the “bat wings”?  How long did it take you to see the actual results on your arms?  I have lost about 42 pounds, but I am struggling with my arms and my buttocks.  I am working out, doing zumba, weights, walking, but I am not seeing great results in the arms.

anything for the triceps with heavy weights will tone that right up! ex, triceps kickbacks, overhead tricep press, bench dips. For the butt you really need to do ass to the grass squats with heavy weight! none of this 5lbs crap, ladies! We are stronger then that!!

  • Maitri

you are so motivating in your words, hope you know that Marlena, thanks for sharing :)

  • Liz_godinez

  • tracy

marlena, i am starting out at the same size that u were at your biggest, is this the workout regimen u have used all along?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1066489240 Michelle Adamski Volk

Stairs are great for the legs, but you should really add in heavy weight lifting for the lower body as well…squats with heavy weights are your BEST friend!!! My legs are my problem area as well and just over all, heavy weight lifting for my entire body has transformed me! I almost NEVER do cardio, unless its circuit training or some speed rope!

  • kcook

Where can to find a flight of stairs that are open like that

  • vanessa

thanks so much marlena…i am starting to get so frustrated with my weight loss that I have been slacking a lot. You are motivating!

  • Danielle

    awesome!! So motivating

  • TjalfeDK

Congratulations Marlena and thank you for sharing! I would like to recommend all of you who don’t see results with the weights and your exercise program – get the heavy weights and do fewer repetitions. If you can easily do 10 repeats it’s too light for you. You won’t get manly muscles I promise! But you will se the results faster and get toned and strong. And also intensify your heart rate workout with interval training. Besides being more efficient it also can be cut short and save you some time. So intensify and push yourself past what you think your limit is and feel the gratification of pushing your limits all the time!

  • Nancy

You also are so beautiful without makeup! Bravo! Keep going! I’m doing the same journey!

  • http://twitter.com/chablecita marcela salgado

I was thinking I dont need to make up all over my face for work out…. but how about the eyes? with waterproof makeup? what do you think? is it possible?

  • MamiX4

  • jocl00462

Around what weight were you comfortable with jogging? I know being heavier is stressful on your joints.
