Grilled Tilapia and Lemon Garlic Green Beans

Hello Lovies!

I hope you’re having a great week so far and are enjoying your summer!  I wanted to share with you what I eat many nights for dinner to lose weight:  Grilled Tilapia with Green Beans.  I eat this quite a bit as it’s super healthy, low in calories, and tasty (well, at least for me as I love green beans but if you have a favorite veggie, cook that instead :) )

Grilled Tilapia

  • Season 1 or 2 Tilapia Fillets (I get the frozen ones from Costco) with Lemon Juice, Ground Black Pepper, and Mrs Dash Seasoning (I use the Lemon Pepper flavor)
  • Grill or “fry” in a saute pan with some PAM cooking spray or slightest bit of Olive Oil
  • Cook until flaky- usually about 4 minutes on each side on medium heat
  • Once cooked, squeeze just a bit more lemon juice on top to keep it moist
Calories:  110-130 for one fillet, 220-240 for two fillets

Lemon Garlic Green Beans

  • Wash and cut off the ends of 1-2 cups of fresh green beans
  • Slightly steam them in a saute pan with 1/4 cup of water on medium heat(this will soften the rough exterior of the green beans)
  • Once the water evaporates (usually 5 minutes), then add 1 lemon’s juice, ground black pepper, and fresh crushed garlic
  • Saute on medium heat until green beans are cooked through- about 7 more minutes
  • *If you like more seasoning, sprinkle on your favorite flavor of Mrs Dash.  I use this brand as it has no salt…
Calories:  34 for 1 cup, plus 40 calories per teaspoon of olive oil

Regardless of what I eat for dinner, I try to eat just protein and veggies- no carbs.  I do this because carbs are a source of energy, so should be reserved for earlier in the day when your body has time to naturally use up that energy.

Do whatever healthy eating works best for you!  I eat low carb as my body does not lose weight easily when I eat a high carb diet.  When I do eat carbs, I stick to rice and red potato products- no refined starches of any sort like white bread, crackers, or pretzels.

That’s just what has worked for me :)  I have 30 more pounds to lose, so let’s see what we can do together!   What are your weight loss goals? What’s your favorite foods to eat?

I hope you’re staying healthy and keeping happy too.  Have a wonderful week!

xoxo,
Marlena

I’m sure you can remember how that goal felt. :) Anyway, I’ve been doing Weight Watchers and it seems to work when I follow it just like anything right? I agree with you and the low carbs though. When I did Adkins I was NEVER hungry. Come on everyone we can do this!!

My family hates fish and I liked back haddock. I have never cooked fish at home and only eat it when out with my mother in law who had me try it.  My question is when you cook tilapia does it smell up the whole house.  I have to loose weight for myself as well as for health reasons and I don’t want to just eat chicken.  Any suggestion you have would be great!!!!!!!

    Thank you,

    Lori

    • Charlotteharris

My brother in law hates the smell too so I suggested he cook it outside on the BBQ and it works a treat for them!

  • aria

Thank you for a great recipe…. I had this for my breakfast this morning & it was delish

(sorry about the background colour… I copied it from my blog, posted it this morning:)
    What
    you will need

    2 pieces of toast

1 garlic clove – chopped in half

1 handful of cherry tomatoes – chopped in half (or a tomato
    chopped up in pieces)

    80g ricotta cheese

    1 handful of baby spinach

What you will need to do

Ok so this is so simple & easy….. once
your bread is toasted you rub the garlic clove on them, then you grab your
cherry/tomatoes & rub/moosh them into the bread as well then you lay the
spinach on the bread then the ricotta cheese and then top it with the mooshed
    cherry/tomatoes & enjoyhave a good one :)  aria @ makeme-up

Marlena, your weight loss and commitment is absolutely inspiring. I cannot imagine the determination and dedication it has taken. Your diet has obviously worked well for you so I don’t wish to be antagonistic in any way but you’ve said your weight loss has slowed down and so I’d like to offer a little bit of advice from my own experience and knowledge.

There is so much conflicting advice about calories and carbohydrates and I feel like I’m on a one woman mission to dispel some of the misplaced ideas that permeated areas of the diet industry….please do not think I am criticising you in any way….but the idea that carbohydrates are a source of energy and should only be eaten early on in the day so you can use this energy is erroneous. A calorie is measure of energy, thus everything you eat, fish/ vegetables/ fruits all contain energy. There are many good reasons why people find that not eating calories from starches in the evening is beneficial to weight loss, but it has nothing to do with the timing. It is more likely that by not eating carbohydrates in the evening you are reducing your calorie intake and also preventing swings in blood sugar levels which may cause you to crave snacks and sweets that would increase your overall calorie intake :)

People have mentioned her that you are perhaps not eating enough making weight loss harder. It is true that under eating will slow your metabolism. There are a few things you could add to your diet that might help boost your weight loss. Including some more fat from sources such as oily fish, seeds and nuts can actually boost weight loss. There has also been some valued research that suggests including one portion of low fat dairy a day can also help – perhaps you could add some natural fat free or greek yoghurt to your fruit?

Please, I don’t mean to criticise you in any way, your diet has clearly worked, but as you get nearer your target the harder it will be and a few small changes could make a big difference.

BUT, but, you are wonderful WHATEVER shape you are :)

    Best wishes xxx
