Life in Paris: Day 1
Thursday, March 29th
Bonjour lovelies!!!
We finally made it to Paris! I cannot believe that after 4 years of trying to get here, it’s finally happening. I’m so nervous that I cannot sleep the entire flight (although Nicola caught some z’s…. Not that I’m bitter
)
The first thing we did was get our new sim cards into our phones! We needed to get a hold of Nina, a friend that was to meet us at the airport. Let me just say that I have no idea what would have become of us if Nina had not been there to help us out. Nina picked us up and our four MASSIVE bags of luggage , managed to fit us and all our cargo into her car, and drove us to our apartment where we were met by our landlord.
Luckily our landord spoke some English so we could understand her but once again, thankfully Nina was here to help iron out the final details of the apartment. Once we were settled in, and by settled in I mean once we had dropped our bags in our rooms, we went for some lunch at an adorable cafe. The streets here are filled with cafes that have seats all on the sidewalks. Parisians sit and enjoy their meals with no cell phones and watch people pass by. It’s such a huge difference from back home- life here is far more relaxed.
After our lunch we decided to walk around the neighborhood some more, soaking up the culture and enjoying the atmosphere. By this point we already were planning on how we could move here- haha.
We went to Sacré Coeur de Montmartre, a beautiful Catholic church with an amazing view of the city. We got kicked out because I was taking pictures- whoops! Nothing like starting off a trip to Paris with getting kicked out of a church…
After 32 hours of no sleep and walking for 4 hours, we headed to our new favorite store: Monoprix! It’s the Paris version of Target
(And you all know how much I love Target. haha) Let me just say, it’s a big fat pain in the butt trying to find where the milk or garbage bags are when you don’t understand much French. (we’re learning quick though!) So… we spent what seemed like half a day buying some necessities for the apartment. Can’t say we have everything but at least we have coffee and crackers (I think that’s what they were)
Off to bed before we pass out!
Beaucoup d’amour,
Nicola and Marlena
