Life in Paris: Day 17 & 18 – The Louvre

Before we get started on this day’s journal, let me just say I’m SOO behind!  I was so busy with school each day, then was racing around Italy for 1 week after school, then came home to gallstones and ecoli poisoning :(  I haven’t had time to catch up on these journals, but I still wanted to share everything from my trip so you all could come along!

Saturday & Sunday,  April 14th & 15th

We slept in nice and late today! We only got up around 12ish (me a little later, haha) We had to meet a friend from school at the Louvre  so you can imagine how we were fumbling all over each other  trying to get ready in one bathroom! What’s amazing is that we actually got out the door in time….between the two of us we are NEVER on time! Never! It was a proud day for us…LOL.

Once we took the metro to get there, we stood in a long line to get in, but fortunately it moved quickly. We didn’t put two and two together….a long line means….many many people inside. The Louvre was fully stocked and loaded! Trying to get to the Mona Lisa was quite the experience.

The Lourve was simply stunning though! We had about 4 hours there, which seems like a long time, but we feel like we saw only a 10th of what the Louvre has to offer. There are over 35,000 pieces housed in the Louvre, which was originally a fortress built in the late 12th century. We tried to take photos but the photos really don’t do the pieces justice. I kind of gave up trying to photograph EVERYTHING after the 1st hour, lol. You kind of just have to be there.

On Sunday, we met our friends Sandra and Nina to meet our friend (and MUG employee) Mariella. Mariella is from Belgium so we took a train to Lille, France as that was the half way meeting point. It was nice to see the French countryside- beautiful green hills and cute little houses.

We spent a wonderful day in Lille catching up with friends, eating lunch, and shopping.  It was nice to escape the city for a day and not feel so crowded.  I found some OH-so-sexy black heels at Printemps as well as some silver bracelets (Nicola and I both are trying to collect one from each major city we visit)  We really just walked around and enjoyed each others company while we popped in and out of stores.  It was such a fun girls day!

On our way back to the train we were a little snacky so we decided to stop in at a small restaurant for something sweet. We decided to each have a true Belgian waffle with nutella- yummo! Well worth the calories :)

After our little snack (and by little I mean large), we hopped on the train to return home and promptly passed the hell out! We were exhausted and the movement of the train was as good as a lullaby.

Beaucoup d’amour!

xoxo

Actually, the theatre you found so special on the grand’place of Lille used to be a military base on the 17th century…. That’s why it doesn’t look like a theatre! ;)
Louis XIV took the city by arms, but the people didn’t Want to be french, so, to avoid a revolt, he decided to built this on our main square, and if you look carefully, you’ll see a golden sun (Louis XIV was the King sun) which was supposed to mean ‘do not screw things up, fellows, i am looking at you guys!’
Ok, this was just the north of France history part! ;)
