Responsible Gambling

Whether they are in Las Vegas, Atlantic City or London, casinos attract people from all over the world. The top casinos are known for their dazzling selection of games and extravagant amenities. Some of them have even starred in movies such as Ocean’s 11. In addition to casino gambling, these destinations also offer luxurious hotels and fine dining. However, it’s important to remember that responsible gambling is essential to the enjoyment of casino travel.

Because of the large amounts of money handled within a casino, both patrons and staff may be tempted to cheat or steal. To combat this, most casinos have security measures in place. For example, a specialized surveillance department monitors the entire casino floor with a high-tech “eye in the sky” system. This system can detect statistical deviations from expected results, which are then flagged for further investigation.

Moreover, a slew of technological innovations have enabled casinos to become much more accurate than they once were. For instance, betting chips with built-in microcircuitry interact with electronic systems in the tables to enable casinos to oversee precisely how much is being wagered minute by minute; and roulette wheels are electronically monitored regularly to discover any anomaly.

Although casino gamblers vary in age, gender and income, the demographic that makes up the largest group is composed of older parents. According to a 2005 study by Roper Reports GfK NOP and the U.S. Gaming Panel by TNS, these individuals make up 23% of all casino gamblers.
